Pixelmator just introduced its second major update, dubbed “Draftsman.” It includes new features such as rulers and guides, plus controls for curves and color balance adjustments.

I just ran across this piece of software from Toon Boom - Flip Boom is an application that introduces kids to the art of 2-D animation. What fun! It is priced at $39.99, and a trial version is available to download at Toon Boom’s site.

The latest version of an image editor called LiveQuartz includes support for multi-touch gestures. I caught this video floating around the net some time ago, and was blown away. It’s a demo of content aware image resizing, which allows you to size your images without worrying about the pixel dimensions of your image. It’s hard to explain…it’s best you watch the video.

Toon Boom recently released Studio Express 4, a basic 2-D animation application. It includes over 30 new features, most notably an interface overhaul that allows you to move your palettes around and save workspaces.

I recently learned about a piece of software called Scribbles from atebits. The biggest strength of Scribbles is its simplicity and unique design (check out that layers palette). Another interesting feature is the stroke-rendering engine, which allows you to rescale your art without the pixelation.
